About Me

My name is Brendan Hirsch and I am a cinematographer currently attending the Savannah College of Art and Design for film and television. I grew up in Redondo Beach, California and fell in love with cinematography and photography at a young age. I found my calling for film when being gifted a GoPro action camera at the age of nine and began my journey with wave and surf photography. This eventually led me to the use of DSLR cameras and soon enough I was making full surf videos. While I enjoyed making fun edits of my friends surfing, my love for cinematography in motion pictures began to rapidly grow.

This obsession began when viewing The Conjuring 2 in theaters. I quickly fell in love with the way the camera moved and how it impacted the story. I first fell in love with camera movement and lighting until my interests soon grew to the use of camera composition and angles as well and how certain shots can make the audience feel one way or the other. I didn't necessarily leave the theater think "I want to be a cinematographer". To be honest, at that age, I didn't even know what a cinematographer was. It wasn't until later down the line, after years of experimenting cameras, lighting, lenses angles, movement, etc. that I realized that everything that there is a job out there that entails everything I've grown to love about film.

Now being a film student, my passion and love for the art continues to grow at an exponential rate. I've been very fortunate to have had the opportunities at SCAD (Savannah College of Art and Design) to work on a number of projects and DP two so far, with a couple more coming in this year. I've also had the fortune of being able to work on 'volume stages' or 'XR stages' , the same technology used and popularized by The Mandalorian and am currently still in the process of learning the way the technology works and how I can use it for productions in the near future. Thank you for checking out my page and I'm excited to continue to share my work as Director of Photography with the world!
